Using soy can be of a good help in lowering a high cholesterol level
Until a few years the foods based on soy protein have been considered the foods for hippies and vegans but lately scientists have declared that the soy protein could be useful in lowering the level of cholesterol in blood.
There were made many studies upon the usefulness of soy protein and the results seemed to point towards the fact that the soy protein would lower the triglycerides and the LDL cholesterol also known as 'bad cholesterol' and would maintain the level of HDL cholesterol also known as 'good cholesterol'.
But all this good news was torn apart in January 2006 when the American Heart Association declared that after 22 studies made on soy protein the conclusion was that soy protein has only minimal effect upon the heart risk factors including the cholesterol.
Until the mystery upon the soy protein is resolved people should continue to eat soy food even though it has no spectacular good effects upon the heart system, it has quality protein in its composition and is low in saturated fat which is good for the organism.
Another study was made in 2005 on 34 adults with high cholesterol level and it showed that after eating daily 50 grams of soy protein, and other lowering cholesterol foods the subjects had an ideal cholesterol level in blood as after taking cholesterol lowering pills.
Another study made in 2005 by the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality did not bring spectacular news about the soy protein. The conclusions of the study were that the soy protein eaten daily reduced the 'bad' cholesterol level with only 3%.
After considering these studies valuable, the AHA Nutrition Committee decided not to recommend the soy protein as an aliment which needs to be eaten for lowering the cholesterol level, but they still consider the soy food a good replacement for high fat meats.
There are several products which contain soy protein and which can be combined for a tasty meal. For example tofu is an ideal aliment which can be added to stir-fries, curries or stews and bring an excellent taste to the meal. When you need a snack try the soy nuts which are roasted soy beans and bring you an excellent amount of proteins. Also good for our organism are the soymilk, the soy cheese and the soy burgers.
If you enjoy cooking you can use soy flour for baking, miso for preparing soup and tempeh for combining it with spaghetti.
There are so many food varieties containing soy protein on the market that you will never get bored of eating them and you will also eat a healthy food.

The five hepatitis types
Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver. Hepatitis is usually caused by viruses, but bacteria can also be a cause of hepatitis. Current studies conducted by scientists have shown that there are no more than five viruses that can cause hepatitis. All these types of hepatitis are very serious and they can do a lot of damage to your liver. The five types of hepatitis are hepatitis A, B, C, D and hepatitis E.
Hepatitis A is caused by a virus that spreads through water or food. The hepatitis A virus is found in one' s fecal materials. If somehow, this material contaminates water of food, the hepatitis virus is then spread very easily. The symptoms for this type of hepatitis are very similar to those of the flu. If you have hepatitis A, vomiting, nausea, fatigue and abdominal pain will be some of the symptoms. Furthermore, if your urine is dark or your skin and eyes turn yellowish, then you can definitely say that you have hepatitis. In this case, a doctor should be seen right away. He/ she will do some further tests to see if indeed you have hepatitis A or not. If you have hepatitis, then you will start a treatment. In cases of hepatitis A, the best treatment there is is to get plenty of rest and stay away from sexual contact. Hepatitis A can last somewhere between two weeks and half an year. There are corently two vaccines available for hepatitis A. One of the hepatitis vaccine is for those that have already been
exposed to the hepatitis virus and the second one is to prevent hepatitis A.
The second type of hepatitis: hepatitis B spreads through blood and sexual contact. Hepatitis B has almost the same symptoms as hepatits A. Loss of appetite can also be another hepatitis symptom. There are people that can have hepatitis B and still have no hepatitis symptoms at all. The treatment for this type of hepatitis is with medication. For children, vaccines are also available against hepatitis.
Hepatitis C, like hepatitis B is also spread by contact with blood that has been contaminated. In this case of hepatitis, more than half of the hepatitis patients have no symptoms at all. Those who have signs of hepatitis feel a loss of appetite, nausea, fatigue and jaundice. For this particular type of hepatitis there is no vaccine. Treatment for hepatitis C is with interferon or some combinations using this drug.
Like hepatitis B and C, hepatitis D is also spread through blood. In order to develop hepatitis D, you either have to suffer from hepatitis B or get infected with hepatitis B at the same time. This happens because hepatitis D needs the hepatitis B virus in order to replicate. Hepatitis E has no treatment and there are no vaccines for it.

Some facts about diabetes insipidus
When the kidneys are unable to conserve water as they perform their function of filtering blood, there can appear an uncommon condition called diabetes insipidus.
ADH, also called vasopressin is the hormone that controls the amount of water conserved. This hormone is produced in the hypothalamus, a region of the brain, and then is stored and released from the pituitary gland, a small gland at the base of the brain.
When a lack of ADH causes diabetes insipidus, we can say we are dealing with a condition called central diabetes insipidus.
The condition called nephrogenic diabetes insipidus appears when diabetes insipidus is caused by failure of the kidneys to respond to ADH.
We must mention that diabetes insipidus has as major symptoms excessive urination and extreme thirst.
It is known that as a result of the damage to the hypothalamus or pituitary gland after a surgery, infection, tumor, or head injury, there can appear central diabetes insipidus.
This diabetes is rare, but even so, it is more common than nephrogenic diabetes insipidus.
In what concerns nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, it is related to a defect in the parts of the kidneys that reabsorb water back into the bloodstream. This diabetes can also appear because of an inherited disorder. Male children receive from their mothers on the X chromosome the abnormal gene that causes the disease.
Diseases of the kidney like polycystic kidney disease and the effects of certain drugs like lithium, amphotericin B, demeclocycline can also cause nephrogenic diabetes insipidus.
Usually, diabetes insipidus can show symptoms like excessive thirst- which can be intense or uncontrollable and may involve a craving for ice water- and excessive urine volume.
As signs and tests we can mention urinalysis, MRI of the head, and in what concerns the urine output, in central diabetes insipidus is suppressed by a dose of ADH, and in nephrogenic diabetes insipidus not suppressed by a dose of ADH.
It is very important to treat the cause of the underlying condition if possible.
Vasopressin, which can be administered as either a nasal spray or tablets can control central diabetes insipidus . Unfortunately, this is not effective for patients with nephrogenic diabetes insipidus.
If nephrogenic diabetes insipidus is caused by medication, it is important to quit that medication because this will lead to recovery of normal kidney function.
In what concerns hereditary nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, this is treated with fluid intake to match urine output and drugs that lower urine output.
It is known that there can appear complications because of the inadequate fluid consumption. We can mention dry skin, dry mucous membranes, fever, rapid heart rate, height loss, fatigue, lethargy, headache, muscle pains, and other.
It is important to know that if treated, diabetes insipidus does not cause severe problems or reduce life expectancy.
